Granite Countertops

Structure and Composition

A natural stone, granite is one of the most robust and long-lasting materials available with proper sealing and care. Granite's hardness ranks an average of 6.5 on the Mohs scale, thus providing excellent resistance to scratches and wear. Its strength and durability also provide the best option for outdoor use.

Granite's composition is primarily of quartz, feldspar and mica with a mix of other minerals dependent upon location extraction. It is a natural occurring igneous rock formed deep within the Earth's crust where granite crystallizes from silica-rich magmas.

Aesthetic and Elegant Appeal

With its natural composition, granite offers a variation of color, flecks and veins - offering true uniqueness like a finger print - no two slabs are identical. Its unique identity and natural luster offer an elegance and statement within your counter designs.

Granite comes in many colors: blues, reds, grays and neutral whites.

Surface Finishes

Choosing the right surface finish with your unique granite slab will make the perfect statement of design and feel for your countertop project:

  • Polished Surface ~ a highly reflective surface that provides a mirror-like finish which provides for the room to appear brighter and more spacious. Polished granite is less porous, thus providing better stain resistance.

  • Honed Surface ~ a softer, more subdued aesthetic appeal that provides a matte finish. Honed granite can provide a more modern or rustic look. It is slightly higher in porosity, thus requiring more frequent sealing.

  • Leathered Surface ~ a textured surface providing depth and touchable appeal. Leathered surface provides a natural and earthy feel, and is less prone to finger prints and smudges.

Advantages of Granite Countertops

  • Durability ~ Granite natural stone is highly resistant to scratches, heat and impacts - an ideal material for high-use areas.

  • Low Maintenance ~ With proper sealing - granite can be cleaned with ease and holds excellent resistance to stains.

  • Distinctive Aesthetic Appeal ~ Each slab is like a finger print - ensuring a one-of-a-kind creation and design.

  • Property Valuation Increase ~ Granite countertops are an investment in your home - thus creating added value to your property.

Quartzite Countertops

Structure and Composition

A natural stone, quartzite is distinguished by its hardness and strength - making it an ideal material for several applications. It is a non-foliate, metamorphic rock derived primarily from quartz sandstone. Most quartzite forms in convergent plate boundaries, where continental plates collide and mountain ranges are created. Quartzite's hardness ranks 7 on the Mohs scale, thus providing excellent resilience to scratches and wear.

Quartzite is composed primarily of grains of quartz, but can also include minerals such as feldspar and mica. The metamorphism causes the quartz sandstone grains to recrystallize and fuse together, in which the intense heat effectively "bakes" the sandstone into dense, hard and durable quartzite.

Aesthetic and Elegant Appeal

Quartzite has veiny and bold patterns encompassing quartz crystals making it one of the most visually stunning materials to use in your project. This natural stone's unique pattern variations, as well as its range of colors - provides a lustrous, smooth and at times almost translucent appearance. Quartzite offers a natural elegance in each slab - as each is a finger print of its own - providing absolute uniqueness and statement of beauty.

Quartzite comes in many colors: blues, reds, greens, grays and neutral whites.

Surface Finishes

Choosing the right surface finish with your unique quartzite slab will make the perfect statement of design and feel for your countertop project:

  • Polished Surface ~ a smooth surface with a glossy finish that reflects light - providing a mirror-like finish aiding your room to appear brighter and more spacious. A polished finish highlights the pattern and color of quartzite.  Polished quartzite is less porous, thus providing better stain resistance.

  • Honed Surface ~ less shine and a more natural appearance - a softer more subdued aesthetic appeal that provides a matte finish. Honed quartzite can provide a more modern or sophisticated look. It is slightly higher in porosity, thus requiring more frequent sealing.

  • Leathered Surface ~ enhances the natural patterns and grains of quartzite. A textured surface providing depth and touchable appeal. Leathered surface provides a natural and earthy feel, and is less prone to finger prints and smudges.

Advantages of Quartzite Countertops

  • Durability ~ True quartzite natural stone is highly resistant to scratches, heat and impacts - an ideal material for high-use areas.

  • Low Maintenance ~ With proper sealing and care - quartzite can be cleaned with ease and holds excellent resistance to stains.

  • Distinctive Aesthetic Appeal ~ Each slab is like a finger print - ensuring a one-of-a-kind creation and design.

  • Property Valuation Increase ~ Quartzite countertops are an investment in your home - thus creating added value to your property.

Dolomite Countertops

Structure and Composition

A natural stone, Dolomite has comparable purposes to limestone. It is known for its similar appearance to marble, but offers durability and hardness that out-measures its counterpart. Dolomite rock is comprised of 60% calcium carbonate and 40% magnesium carbonate.  Dolomite's hardness ranks 4 on the Mohs scale, thus providing a better option over marble.

The fundamental building block of dolomite is the combination of calcium, magnesium and carbonate - forming when magnesium-rich fluids interact with existing limestone or lime mud.

Aesthetic and Elegant Appeal

Dolomite enhances the overall design of countertops with its natural beauty. It presents itself as high quality marble, yet is slightly harder. Dolomite has intricate wavey patterns that appear like creamy waves of marble that create a calming and inviting atmosphere. Dolomite's beauty complements various design styles, and each slab is a unique piece - guaranteeing a one of a kind creation.

Dolomite comes in various colors: white, gray, pink, tan and touches of brown and charcoal black.

Surface Finishes

Choosing the right surface finish with your unique dolomite slab will make the perfect statement of design and feel for your countertop project:

  • Polished Surface ~ glossy, reflective surface that highlights the stone's natural colors and patterns. This mirror-like finish provides a luxury elegance to the smooth lines of the veins. Polished dolomite is less porous and provides more protection, though susceptible to acid and harsh chemicals.

  • Honed Surface ~ a matte surface that provides a satin allure. A more forgiving finish that is less likely to show scratches or etching - making it suitable for high-traffic areas. Honed Dolomite is higher in porosity, thus requiring more frequent sealing.

  • Leathered Surface ~ a textured surface with slight sheen - this finish provides tasteful and elegant ambiance. The feel of nature in conjunction with the sense of stylish functionality provides great appeal.

Advantages of Dolomite Countertops

  • Durability ~ though stronger than marble, long term durability is more suitable for less busy kitchens.

  • Regular Maintenance ~ regular sealing is crucial. Gentle and PH balanced cleaning products are required. Immediate clean-up of spills and liquid are required.

  • Distinctive Aesthetic Appeal ~ luxurious look similar to marble, with subtle veining and smooth texture.

  • Property Valuation Increase ~ dolomite can enhance property value to provide upscale appearance.
